MicroStrategy Shares: Insider Sell-Off Amid Bitcoin Investment Growth

Despite ongoing investment increases in Bitcoin, some insiders at MicroStrategy have started actively selling their shares, raising concerns about the future of the company and its stock.

Sell-Off of $10 Million

Carl Rickertsen, a board member of MicroStrategy, recently sold all his MSTR shares worth over $10 million. This decision has attracted attention, especially since Rickertsen has been with the firm since 2022.

He originally bought $700,000 worth of MSTR shares when the price was below $25. Since then, the shares have significantly increased in value, making his exit highly profitable.

Reports from Protos indicate that Rickertsen not only sold but exercised stock options and dumped the shares on the same day. Such actions often signal a lack of long-term confidence in the company.

No Insider Purchases of MSTR Shares in 2025

Furthermore, not a single insider has purchased MSTR shares so far in 2025. According to Protos, there have been 26 insider sales this year, with total sell-offs exceeding purchases by over $864 million.

This trend raises concerns among small investors, especially as the shares have dropped 10% in the past month.

Criticism of MicroStrategy's Business Model

This comes at a time when Michael Saylor, the face of MicroStrategy, continues to promote the company's Bitcoin-first strategy. The firm currently holds a staggering 582,000 BTC worth over $63 billion.

However, despite that, MSTR shares are down by 8%, currently trading around $379.

Economist Peter Schiff did not hold back from criticism, calling MicroStrategy’s business model a "complete fraud" and claiming bankruptcy is only a matter of time. While Schiff admits he regrets not buying Bitcoin earlier, he still believes gold, not Bitcoin, will come out on top.

The share distribution of MicroStrategy among insiders during a time of growing Bitcoin strategy raises serious questions about the company's future and its shares. The turmoil in the eyes of small investors is heightened by the criticism from prominent economists, underscoring the instability of the current situation.
