CKpool developer and administrator Con Kolivas announced the launch of a new solo Bitcoin pool located in Brisbane, Australia, aimed at serving miners in Oceania and the Asia-Pacific region.
Goals of the New Pool
The new AU pool is separated from the main CK and EU pools due to latency and performance issues. It will operate with low latency. Con Kolivas noted that blocks generated from the AU pool will be propagated among other sibling pools.
Expectations from the New Pool
Con Kolivas predicted that the AU pool will mainly consist of Bitaxe mining rigs. He also stated that this pool will have the lowest hashrate compared to other CK solo pools due to high electricity costs in Australia. The average cost of residential electricity in Australia is AUD 33 cents per kWh.
Recent Success of a Solo Miner
Yesterday, Con Kolivas congratulated a solo miner for winning 3.175 BTC after solving block number 904,989. The miner solved the 302nd solo block with a hashrate of 200 petahashes per second. Kolivas clarified that such a hashrate may indicate rented hashrate, as it significantly exceeds available hardware.
The launch of the new solo pool in Australia may change the mining dynamics in the region. However, high electricity costs pose challenges for establishing a more significant hashrate.
