The U.S. Department of Justice continues its antitrust proceeding against Google by calling Dmitry Shevelenko of Perplexity to testify.

Google and the Antitrust Investigation

The DOJ began an antitrust case against Google in 2020, joined by over 30 state attorneys general. The case alleges Google's dominance in the internet search market, preventing competitors like Bing and DuckDuckGo from thriving.

The Link Between Perplexity and Google

Perplexity and other AI tools have emerged as alternatives to traditional internet searches. Perplexity's CEO, Aravind Srinivas, has recently discussed possible collaborations with news publishers in opposition to Google.

Weight of Perplexity’s Testimony

In October, Google issued a subpoena to Perplexity for documents supporting its competitive stance in search. Perplexity has not yet provided documents, citing complexity.
