The Pump.fun platform, known for its memecoin startup, announced the return of its live streaming feature five months after suspending it due to incidents involving harmful content.
Problems with Previous Streaming
Last November, Pump.fun suspended its live streaming feature after a surge in extreme content. Some users reportedly threatened violence or self-harm if a token did not reach a specific price. The platform stated that this had strained its moderators, leading to a temporary suspension to ensure user safety.
New Moderation Policy
According to co-founder Alon Cohen, live streaming is being reintroduced with new moderation standards and transparent guidelines. The platform's website states that the new policy is aimed at creating a safe social environment and preventing harmful content. The policy prohibits certain types of content, but it does not specifically define what is 'appropriate' or 'inappropriate.'
Decline in Interest for Memecoins
The decision to reinstate streaming comes amid a decline in interest for memecoins, associated with several high-profile rug pulls. Data shows that the rate of tokens graduating from Pump.fun to traditional exchanges has fallen below 1%, with the total number of tokens launched also significantly reduced from 5,400 in January to less than 1,500 in March.
The return of the streaming feature on Pump.fun, despite the waning interest in memecoins, highlights the importance of safe content and new moderation standards for the platform.
