The Russian Ministry of Energy is launching a national registry of mining rigs aimed at addressing illegal activities in the crypto mining sector and tax offenses.
Purpose of the Registry
The Russian Ministry of Energy, the Federal Tax Service, and the Ministry of Digital Development have compiled a registry, which has been sent to regions with high miner activity. The main goal of this registry is to identify consumers using electricity for mining, allowing for the application of special regulatory measures and taxation.
Legislative Measures for Mining Regulation
Despite the introduction of mining laws, only 30% of miners have registered with the Federal Tax Service. The Ministry of Finance is working to bring the remaining 70% into legal compliance. One of the primary aims is to legalize the industry and reduce illegal electricity consumption.
Examples of Combating Illegal Mining
Since the beginning of the year, Russian authorities have already shut down several illegal mining operations. Numerous cases have been reported where illicit mining farms were siphoning electricity without permission, including operations in garages and even inside trucks.
The launch of the national registry of mining rigs represents a step toward legalizing the crypto mining sector in Russia and preventing unauthorized electricity consumption.
