Former FTX Digital Markets co-CEO Ryan Salame has requested a two-month delay in starting his prison sentence.

Request for Delay

On October 9, Ryan Salame's lawyers filed a motion in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, requesting to delay the start of his seven-and-a-half-year sentence from October 11 to December 7. Judge Lewis Kaplan had previously granted a continuance in July after Salame reported being mauled by a German Shepherd on June 29. Medical information related to his request was redacted but included a statement from a Virginia physician about the need for continuing medical treatment.

Conviction and Plea

Salame pleaded guilty to conspiracy to make unlawful political contributions and defraud the Federal Election Commission in September 2023, nearly a year after FTX's collapse. He became the second individual to receive prison time in the same indictment following former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried. Former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison was sentenced to two years after Bankman-Fried and Salame.

Situation with Partners and Colleagues

The October filing did not mention Salame's partner, Michelle Bond, with whom he has a child. In August, prosecutors indicted Bond in a separate case involving multiple charges related to campaign finance violations. She pleaded not guilty and was free on bail at the time of publication. Nishad Singh and Gary Wang, the final FTX executives named in the same indictment, are scheduled for sentencing hearings on October 30 and November 20, respectively. They also potentially face lengthy prison sentences.

It remains unclear how the court will respond to Salame's latest motion for a delay, given his previous attempts to alter his guilty plea amidst charges against his partner.
