On March 20, Volatility Shares will launch the first Solana ETFs in the U.S., providing investors an easier way to access Solana without technical barriers.
What Are Solana ETFs?
An ETF is a financial product tracking the price of an asset or basket of assets, allowing investors to access them without owning them directly. In this case, the Volatility Shares Solana ETFs will track Solana futures, making it easier to invest in Solana's future price movements. These ETFs are the first Solana-based ETFs in the U.S. and are launching shortly after the Chicago Mercantile Exchange began offering Solana futures.
Key Features of Solana ETFs
The SOLZ ETF tracks Solana futures with a management fee of 0.95%, which will rise slightly to 1.15% in 2026. The SOLT ETF offers 2x leveraged exposure, doubling the return (or loss) of Solana's price movements, with a management fee of 1.85%. These funds simplify access to Solana for investors, bypassing complex technical aspects like wallet management. According to Volatility Shares CEO Justin Young, these ETFs help break down barriers for traditional investors looking to enter the crypto market.
A Step Toward a Spot Solana ETF
The launch of Solana futures ETFs is a crucial step toward the approval of a spot Solana ETF by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. A spot ETF would directly hold Solana tokens, while futures ETFs only track price movements of futures contracts. The SEC has historically been cautious with spot crypto ETFs, but more receptive to futures-based ones. Launching Solana futures ETFs at Volatility Shares may lay the groundwork for a future spot ETF.
With Solana ETFs' introduction, Volatility Shares offers a new opportunity for U.S. investors to access Solana, fostering growth in the crypto market.
