The xAI team, led by Elon Musk, has announced plans for further development of its artificial intelligence Grok 4 following its launch.
Announcement of Grok 4 and Future Versions
During a Thursday livestream, the xAI team stated that the first public release of Grok 4 is based on the company's sixth foundational model. A seventh version is currently in training and expected to be completed 'in a few weeks,' with improvements focused on 'weakness on the vision side.'
Elon Musk’s Predictions
Musk stated that Grok will be able to interact with the real world through Tesla's Optimus robot. He added that integration of Grok into Tesla cars is set to occur 'next week at the latest.' This, Musk said, will allow Grok to test whether its theories are valid in the real world, suggesting the chatbot may evolve beyond text-based output and into scientific experimentation.
> 'It might discover new technologies that are actually useful no later than next year and maybe by the end of this year,' Musk noted.
Musk also mentioned that Grok may discover new physics next year, and within two years, this would almost certainly be the case.
New Software and Funding
The xAI team also hinted at an upcoming programming AI model that has already been trained. The new model is purportedly 'both fast and smart' and expected to be released in a few weeks. This news comes after xAI secured $10 billion in fresh capital earlier this month, doubling down on its challenge to OpenAI. In late May, the firm also 'agreed in principle' to integrate its AI chatbot Grok across Telegram in a $300 million deal.
The development plans for Grok 4 and upcoming technologies from xAI raise critical questions about the future of artificial intelligence and its integration into various areas of life.
