Animoca Brands has announced that the X account of their co-founder and CEO Yat Siu was compromised. Hackers are using it to disseminate false information about token releases from Animoca.
Yat Siu's Account Compromise
On December 26th, Animoca Brands confirmed via their official X account that Yat Siu's account was hacked. Users were warned to remain vigilant and not to interact with the account, as the company had not issued any new crypto tokens or NFTs. The company also emphasized the unreliability of information regarding Solana-based token releases.
Series of Account Breaches on X Platform
On December 24, the account of the live-streaming platform Kick was also compromised and used to promote fraudulent Solana-based tokens. Hackers pushed the 'Kick Token' to users, directing them to malicious wallet links. Co-founder Bijan Tehrani dismissed any plans to launch the Kick Token, warning users about the unreliability of the posts. On December 20, the X account of Vivek Ramaswamy from the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was hacked to spread false claims about a stablecoin project.
Other Incidents and Expert Warnings
Celebrity and rapper Drake's account also fell victim to a breach, with scammers using it to market the fake token $ANITA and the betting platform Stake. Crypto investigator ZachXBT debunked any ties of Drake to Stake or $ANITA. Former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao cautioned his followers about scammers impersonating him, noting that his official handle is @cz_binance.
