Representatives of the Ethereum Foundation have announced plans to cease the operational activity of Goerli validators 3 months after the Goerli Dencun fork. It was also mentioned that an alternative timeline is 1 month after the Dencun fork in the main network, depending on what happens later. Application developers are recommended to switch to the Sepolia test network. Stakeholders and infrastructure providers, on the other hand, are encouraged to consider transitioning to the Holesky test network.
After the Dencun network update, there are no further planned changes in this network. The Ethereum Foundation emphasized that despite no staking restrictions in Goerli, client validators and testing teams make up the majority of participants in the staking program, and their decisions will impact network stability. Additionally, these teams intend to use this period to test deferred finality, identify inactive nodes, and carry out significant optimizations.
Application and tool developers are advised to actively utilize Sepolia for testing decentralized applications, smart contracts, and other Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) features. As for stakeholders and infrastructure providers, they are recommended to consider the possibility of transitioning to the Ephemery test network, which resets weekly and provides convenient validator lifecycle testing.
