Space and Time, a decentralized Web3 data service, has released a new open-source GPU acceleration platform designed to optimize encryption technology in blockchain protocols using Zero-Knowledge Proof (ZK-proof). This technology allows one party to prove certain information to another without revealing the information itself, ensuring data confidentiality and verifying its accuracy.

Jay White, co-founder and head of research at Space and Time, explained that the accelerator, named Blitzar, developed specifically for GPUs, aims to provide faster and more reliable ZK proofs. The GPUs used in Blitzar are capable of handling heavy computational loads, such as generating ZK-proofs, and offer an efficient memory structure for processing large data sets.

Space and Time has opened its framework to any projects looking to improve performance related to multi-scalar multiplication, one of the most costly parts of creating a ZK-proof. White added that the company uses NVIDIA GPUs for its ZK-proof tool, Proof of SQL, which generates a cryptographic proof of a query SNARK in a decentralized data network, allowing users to be confident in the accuracy and manipulation resistance of the data query.

Blitzar can be used by Ethereum Layer 2 protocols, such as Polygon zkEVM and zkSync Era, to optimize their ZK proof generation. ZK-proof-based protocols are actively developing in the Ethereum ecosystem, providing speed and low fees for transactions with DApps and services operating on the Ethereum blockchain.
