Why do gamers prefer web2 over web3 games?

The Web3 sphere is not fully accepted by society, despite all its successes. Experts say that even large investments will not be able to influence the situation on the market. TheGamer reports that the average gamer spends about $76 per month on games, which is about $58,000 per lifetime. Millennials are the group that invests the most in this.

The increase in active participation can be attributed to the extra time players spend on games and multiple lockdowns. Twitch grew 83% in 2020 and generated over 5 billion hours of content, watched in Q2. Microsoft and Sony celebrated an increase in profit from games in 2021.

Investors are interested in contributing to the Web3 gaming sector

DappRadar reports, that games on Web3 and Metaverse projects raised $748 million from 08/01/2022, i.е. 135% more than in July, which is an indicator of increased interest in this area.

Forecasts for the total number of investments in the gaming industry in 2022 also rose 20% to $10.2 billion. This suggests that large investment enterprises remain positive about GameFi, despite the uncertainty that has formed in the crypto markets.

Immutable is practically the most famous investor in Web3 games. The organization raised $500 million, which it will use to further improve the ecosystem. Robbie Ferguson, co-owner and CEO of Immutable, said the company's main goal - to innovate in the Web3 gaming space.

In our opinion, the gaming sector is a huge prospect in Web3. This market will be global, only in-game items should be worth $100 billion.Robbie Ferguson

Attitude of gamers towards Web3 games

From what I've said about the future of Web-3 games, it looks like things are going to be great. However, what is the opinion of gamers themselves about this?

Coda labs created a survey about blockchain games for 6921 people from 5 countries. The results showed that only 12% of gamers played Web3 games, and 15% of those who remained were interested in continuing to do so in the future. Interestingly, the biggest fear among the respondents is that they will be deceived. Perhaps, this is due to the fact that the number of hacker attacks has recently increased.

It is not the time for acceptance by society

The gaming industry maintains a positive growth trend, and blockchain games, on the contrary, cannot boast of such activity among gamers.

This is what motivates most projects to enter the market soon and often with very promising RoadMap, which is unrealistic to justify in a bull market, and especially a bear market and crypto winter. The creators of Web3 games need to control the price of the project's tokens: if it goes down, investors may not be interested in the game and they will abandon it. And given the current position of "traditional games", and if most companies return to Web2, this will not surprise anyone.

Earlier it became known that GameStop added NFTs, created in Immutable X to its trading platform. From now on, it will contain assets from Web3 games.

On October 28, the Binance team officially confirmed that the exchange has become the main investor in Elon Musk's deal with Twitter. Changpeng Zhao said in an interview that he is happy to work with Elon and support the development of a new vision for the social network and Web3.
