In 2023, losses from exploits in the DeFi sector decreased, contributing to market growth.
According to IntoTheBlock's analysis, cryptocurrency market losses from attacks have remained at a minimal level since 2020. At the end of the nearly completed year, DeFi losses from exploits have slightly exceeded the $1 billion mark.
Historically, the level of losses looks as follows:
- 2022 - $53.5 billion (the highest level);
- 2021 - $4 billion;
- 2020 - $157.2 million (the lowest level).
Despite relatively low figures, noticeable incidents occurred in 2023, including hacks of SushiSwap and SafeMoon.
In addition, the DeFi market faced another unfavorable trend - a decrease in inflow of funds. The total value locked (TVL) began to decrease since the end of 2022, although some recovery was observed by October 2023. At the time of publication, the TVL across the entire DeFi market amounts to $51.3 billion.
