BlackRock's Advancement in Creating Ethereum ETF
BlackRock, one of the largest asset managers globally, is making strides towards introducing its Ethereum ETF, known as the iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA). The company recently submitted a revised S-1 registration form to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) following the approval of Form 19b-4 for eight Ethereum ETFs.
The updated S-1 filing discloses information about a seed capital investor who purchased 400,000 shares at $25 each, amounting to a $10 million investment by a BlackRock affiliate on May 21. This action highlights BlackRock's preparedness to launch its Ethereum ETF, which will be traded under the symbol 'ETHA'.
Expert Views on the Launch of Ethereum ETF
Key professionals in the cryptocurrency industry have reacted positively to these developments. Bloomberg's ETF analyst, Eric Balchunas, has expressed optimism, indicating the potential for a launch by the end of June, with high chances of approval by early July.
Likewise, analyst James Seyffart mentioned that while the SEC's review process for the amended filings may be time-consuming, efforts are being made to expedite the Ethereum ETFs' launch.
In contrast, Cathie Wood, the CEO of ARK Invest, speculated that the U.S. SEC's approval of spot Ethereum ETFs was politically motivated, possibly linked to issues surrounding the U.S. election.
Conversely, Hashdex, a prominent global asset management firm, recently retracted its Ethereum ETF proposal shortly after its competitors received regulatory approval. The reasons behind Hashdex's decision remain undisclosed.
Despite these emerging trends, the cryptocurrency market has not responded positively in the immediate term. As of the latest update, Ethereum's price stood at $3,777, marking a 2.5% decrease over the past 24 hours, with daily trading volume shrinking by 9.8%. Nonetheless, Ethereum has witnessed substantial growth of 99.5% annually.
