Solana Foundation has implemented strict measures to combat sandwich attacks by removing a group of validator operators from its delegation program. This decision was made in response to their involvement in harmful practices against users. According to a post by Solana Validator Relations Leader Tim Garcia, the foundation has a zero-tolerance policy towards such activities.
Crackdown on Mempools Facilitating Sandwich Attacks
In its efforts to maintain a secure environment, the Solana Foundation is actively monitoring and identifying operators engaged in mempools that facilitate sandwich attacks. Garcia emphasized that these actions are definitive and ongoing. By ensuring that malicious operators are not empowered, the foundation aims to safeguard individual users from deceptive practices.
Sandwich attacks manipulate transaction prices by placing two transactions around the victim's transaction to profit from the price difference. This exploitation violates Solana Foundation's regulations, prohibiting validators from participating in specialized mempools for these attacks. The foundation's commitment to user protection is evident in its strict stance against such misconduct.
The Solana Foundation Delegation Program, which delegates SOL coins to validators, prioritizes performance and ethical conduct. Violators of good practices are promptly removed from the program, forfeiting all stakes delegated by the foundation. Although removed validators can still operate on Solana's permissionless network, they lose access to the foundation's benefits.
MEV Issues in Solana
Solana faces challenges related to Maximal Extractable Value (MEV), where validators exploit transaction order to maximize profits, leading to increased costs for users. By addressing MEV concerns through recent actions, the Solana Foundation aims to create a fair and secure network environment.
Through strict enforcement and the removal of violators, the foundation aims to uphold network integrity and protect users from exploitative practices. These initiatives are essential for fostering a reliable and efficient Blockchain ecosystem, ensuring that only ethical validators receive support from the foundation.
