Several popular cryptocurrency exchanges in Japan have suffered from cyberattacks, carried out by a group of criminals from Lazarus. Cybercrime specialists attribute many cyberattacks to the group and classify it as a “permanent serious threat”. The group is rumored to be run by the North Korean government.
The hacker attack was carried out by using phishing emails. Users opened these messages and virus files penetrated their computers at that time. The investigation showed that Lazarus has been attacked by Japanese companies for more than a year.
It is possible that the scammers want to take over the entire growing cryptocurrency sector in Southeast Asia. It is established that the stolen funds were partially laundered through the Tornado Cash mixer, against which the US has already imposed sanctions.
Also, earlier news appeared that October could become the leader in terms of the number of hacker attacks.
