.badass Domains is currently a TLD on the Handshake decentralized root zone, which is built on the proof of work blockchain. After the .badass auction was opened, a bid of HNS 1,001 was placed, which turned out to be the highest bid. When the auction ended, the developers paid the 2nd highest bid at 190 HNS, which was around $ 19 at the time.

.badass Domains project description
.badass — the top-level domain in the Handshake blockchain. The developers forked ENS to create the first truly decentralized subdomains, based on the decentralized root zone. If you are using a PC, you will need the MetaMask extension or the Brave browser with an enabled crypto wallet. On mobile, this could be TrustWallet, Coinbase wallet, Status, MetaMask Mobile or another Ethereum mobile browser.
To resolve .badass domains:
- You can configure the DNS servers of your system.
- Or you can install hsd and run it with the generated Handover plugin, which resolves ENS names, using HIP-0005 and EIP-1185.
In your browser go to the badass.domains page. Enter the name you want to register in the Search Names field and click the Search button.
| Firstly | If a name has already been registered by someone else, you will see a page with information about ENS records for that name. |
| Secondly | If the name is free, follow the further instructions. |
| Thirdly | Use the “-” and “+” buttons to select how many years you would like to pay the annual premium initially. You can always renew your registration period at other times in the future. |
Please note that you must have enough ETH in your Ethereum-enabled browser wallet to pay the full registration fee.
This will bring up another MetaMask window, asking you to confirm another transaction, which will complete the purchase of your name and pay the registration fee. Click the “Confirm” button. Returning to the Manager page, where there was a “Register” button, you will see “TX PENDING”. Once the transaction is confirmed, your name will be registered.
