A set of new rules for the cryptocurrency business is being prepared in Turkey

Feb 21, 2024

Turkey is preparing a new set of laws for the cryptocurrency industry aimed at protecting the interests of consumers and encouraging innovation. The deputy chairman of the ruling AK Party, Omer Ileri, announced this in an interview with CoinDesk after a meeting with representatives of the cryptocurrency sector.

He noted that the meeting was productive and the participants discussed the current situation. Ileri stressed the similarity of the opinions of both sides in this process.

"Our goal is to protect citizens, ensure investor protection, regulate platforms and at the same time develop a bill that encourages innovation," Ileri said.

He also noted that the government has big plans for various technology industries such as blockchain and artificial intelligence. As an example of interest in the cryptocurrency sector, he mentioned events such as Blockchain Istanbul and Forum Metaverse.

Recall that at the end of 2023, the media reported that the law on the regulation of cryptocurrencies in Turkey is at the "final stage".

Already in January of the following year, it became known that local authorities are working on a legal definition of cryptocurrencies and are approaching the final stage of regulating the crypto market.
