In 2023, the damage caused by hacker attacks amounted to $2.61 billion, and $674.9 million of this amount was recovered, according to a report by PeckShield experts.
During 2023, more than 600 major attacks in the field of cryptocurrencies were recorded, which led to losses of about $2.61 billion. Of this amount, $1.51 billion was lost as a result of hacking, and another $1.1 billion was lost due to various fraudulent schemes. It should be noted that the level of damage decreased by 27.78% compared to 2022.
According to the report, the most vulnerable sector remains DeFi (decentralized financial protocols), which suffered a share of 67% of the total damage. Among the methods of hacker attacks, the most common remains the method with instant loans, which led to 40% of all losses.
An interesting fact is that the amount that was returned increased fivefold in 2023, reaching $674.9 million. This indicates improved coordination between crypto experts and law enforcement agencies.

Statistics from Chainalysis also confirm the general trend towards reducing losses from such incidents in 2023, although the figures may vary slightly.
