Roblox, an online gaming platform boasting over 200 million monthly active users, has recently added XRP to its list of accepted payment methods. The news of this integration was officially announced via BitPay's Twitter account on October 17th.
In this development, XRP can now be used for payments within Roblox, with Los Angeles-based Xsolla handling the in-game transactions. BitPay serves as the partner responsible for facilitating smooth connections with cryptocurrency wallets.
Roblox is available on various mainstream platforms, including Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The platform boasts 65.5 million daily active users, with nearly 44% of them being under the age of 13. During Q1 2023, Roblox users collectively spent approximately $773 million on in-game purchases.
Xsolla has been actively working to integrate cryptocurrency into its payment ecosystem. In August 2022, it collaborated with the automated crypto management platform Coinchange Financials Inc. and the Web3-based live-streaming social platform TradeZing to create a non-fungible tokens (NFTs) payment solution. Then, in August 2023, Xsolla partnered with Crypto.com to incorporate the latter's checkout solution into Xsolla's Pay Station platform.
This partnership between Xsolla and BitPay has a history dating back to 2014 when BitPay first began accepting payments in Bitcoin (BTC). Furthermore, in September 2023, BitPay and Xsolla jointly introduced PayPal USD (PYUSD) payments for both merchants and consumers.
