Starbucks has been introducing Starbucks Odyssey, a new component of its Starbucks Rewards program, from December 2022. Whether coffee drinkers will swap their preferred brews for NFTs is the central topic of this project.

Members of Starbucks Rewards can participate in online games, tests, and activities during this trip that is flavored with coffee. In exchange, users receive special NFT "Journey Stamps" and Odyssey Points, which provide them access to unique coffee experiences that aren't available anywhere else. The goal of this special offer is to draw in coffee lovers.

Starbucks Odyssey stands out because to its integrated online community. Members can communicate about their travels and the NFTs they've earned, which promotes a sense of community among online coffee lovers.

The Odyssey test phase, which is first accessible to waitlisted members and staff, aims to ascertain the number of people who would be prepared to exchange a cup of coffee for a highly sought-after NFT. Interestingly, despite Starbucks employing Polygon (MATIC) for their stamps, crypto fans have expressed the most interest.

For instance, 2,000 stamps ran out in minutes when Starbucks Odyssey offered them for $100 each in the spring, enticing cryptocurrency fans. Since then, several of these stamps have been sold again on the secondary market for high prices.

However, the question remains: Is Starbucks Odyssey successfully introducing Starbucks Rewards members to the world of NFTs, or is it primarily attracting NFT and cryptocurrency enthusiasts to join the Starbucks Rewards program?

Starbucks Odyssey could potentially revolutionize loyalty programs due to the scale of Starbucks Rewards, with over 31.4 million active U.S. members. Let's explore the key elements of Odyssey:

  1. Enhanced Member Insight: Odyssey engages members for extended periods, providing valuable insights into member preferences, although sustained engagement is crucial.

  2. Distinctive Rewards: The unique Odyssey NFTs may appeal to collectors, but some find the requirements cumbersome and prefer simple discounts on coffee.

  3. Reduced Liability: Odyssey stamps come with bonus points, potentially allowing Starbucks to issue fewer points overall, reducing liabilities on their balance sheet.

  4. Alternative Stamp Acquisition: Starbucks offers the option to purchase stamps with a credit card, catering to NFT fans who seek quicker access.

While Starbucks Odyssey is still in progress, it represents an innovative approach to national rewards programs. Starbucks deserves recognition for taking this bold step.
