A hacker compromised the account of Algorand's executive, sending her to "pole dance"

Jan 28, 2024

The account of Stacy Warden, the CEO of the Algorand Foundation, was hacked by a hacker who used it to post offensive and satirical messages. The Algorand Foundation confirmed the hack on platform X (formerly known as Twitter) and advised the community not to follow any links or respond to direct messages from this account.

On January 26, a post was published on Warden's account, in which the Algorand community was called poor and used a racial slur. The hacker then urged to sell Algorand (ALGO) and buy Ether (ETH). In another message, the hacker claimed that Tron founder Justin Sun wants to take Algorand to new heights by giving him full control over the project and the ability to mint any token and convert it back to True USD (TUSD).

The hacker also posted music on Warden's account and changed her biography, claiming she is now a "semi-professional pole dancer." Many users of X were amused by the incident, preferring the hacker's posts to Warden's. Some suggested Algorand hire the hacker to manage the account.

Crypto detective ZachXBT expressed the opinion that the hacker could become the "best CEO" of the Algorand Foundation. Other community members also criticized Warden. It is reported that the head of Algorand's account remained under the hacker's control all day.

John Woods, the CTO of Algorand, stated that the firm is working to regain control of Warden's account, but no Algorand systems or accounts were compromised. It is unclear how quickly X's help center responded to the hack.
