Bitget has released a critical update regarding the recent security breach, revealing a significant increase in the total amount stolen. Based on the data provided in the document, the exchange is now confirming that approximately $387.5 million was transferred to attacker-controlled wallets, a notable rise from the previous estimate of $351.6 million.
Updated Loss Estimate
The updated figure reflects additional assets discovered during transaction tracing, rather than a new wave of unauthorized transfers. Bitget's security team has successfully identified the attack vector and the method used to circumvent existing security measures, and they have since addressed the underlying vulnerability.
Collaboration with Cybersecurity Teams
To aid in the investigation, independent cybersecurity teams from Mandiant and SlowMist are collaborating with Bitget. The revised loss estimate encompasses assets from various networks, including:
- Ethereum
- XRP Ledger
- Zcash
- TRON
Withdrawal Resumption Plan
The exchange plans to gradually resume withdrawals, starting with Bitcoin on September 28, followed by Ethereum on September 29, and USDT on September 30. Other tokens and services are anticipated to be restored by October 2, marking a pivotal shift towards remediation and asset recovery.
Recently, Bitget announced a significant update regarding a security breach, but prior to this, the company celebrated a milestone with its self-custody wallet, surpassing 40 million downloads. For more details, see more.
