Coinbase has announced significant changes regarding the GYEN stablecoin, which is linked to the Japanese yen. As the issuer, GMO Trust Company, prepares to retire the product, customers will need to take action to manage their holdings effectively. According to the results published in the material, Coinbase will convert GYEN balances to USDC to facilitate this transition.
Coinbase to Disable GYEN Transactions
Starting from October 26, 2026, Coinbase will disable the ability to send and receive GYEN on its platform. Customers holding GYEN will see their remaining balances converted into USDC between October 26 and October 30, 2026, at the prevailing market rate. Notably, Coinbase will not impose any transaction fees for this conversion process.
Risks of Unsupported Deposits
However, users are cautioned about the risks associated with unsupported deposits, which may not be recoverable. This development underscores the importance of staying informed about changes in the digital asset landscape as customers must navigate the implications of such transitions carefully.
In light of recent developments with Coinbase's GYEN stablecoin, Circle has announced a partnership with Tereina to enhance payment systems using USDC and EURC stablecoins. This collaboration aims to streamline financial operations for businesses, offering a more efficient payment solution. For more details, see read more.
