David Schwartz, the former CTO of Ripple, has raised alarms about a surge in scams targeting users of the XRP Ledger. According to the assessment of specialists presented in the publication, his warning follows a distressing report of a user losing 6,000 XRP to a fraudulent scheme that promised to double their investment.

Schwartz Warns About Social Media Scams

Schwartz pointed out that the majority of offers circulating on social media are scams, particularly those involving fake airdrops and giveaways. He specifically cautioned users against individuals impersonating him on platforms like Instagram and Telegram, as they are likely to be scammers.

Identified Scam Tactics

Supporting Schwartz's claims, reports from Bithomp have identified a particular scam tactic where unsolicited NFTs are sent to user wallets. These NFTs often come with deceptive messages and can result in the immediate loss of XRP or other assets if accepted.

Protective Measures for Users

To protect themselves, Schwartz urged users to remain vigilant and avoid clicking on unknown links. He also recommended utilizing tools from Bithomp and Xumm to review and cancel any pending offers. He concluded by stressing that no legitimate organization would conduct surprise giveaways or ask users to send funds or share private keys.

In light of recent warnings from David Schwartz about scams targeting XRP Ledger users, it's noteworthy that the XRP Ledger Foundation has recently restructured its leadership team to enhance community engagement and technical stewardship. For more details, see read more.
