eHailing drivers in Benin City are raising their voices against Bolt's newly launched Wait and Save ride option, arguing that it threatens their income and overall well-being. The introduction of this feature has sparked significant concern among drivers who feel sidelined in the decision-making process, as the report expresses concern that their livelihoods may be at risk due to the changes in the platform's pricing structure.
Criticism of New Fare Options
Comrade Russell Eghaghe, the Chairman of the Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON), has criticized the new option for offering the lowest fares, which he claims are unsustainable for drivers, particularly in the face of rising fuel prices. He emphasized that the current economic climate makes it increasingly difficult for drivers to maintain their livelihoods under such conditions.
Drivers' Frustration Over Lack of Consultation
Moreover, drivers have expressed their frustration over Bolt's lack of consultation prior to implementing this change. They feel disrespected and believe that their voices should have been heard in the policy-making process. Eghaghe has called for an urgent dialogue with Bolt to address these pressing concerns and to ensure that drivers are actively involved in future decisions that affect their work and earnings.
In a recent development, the Optimism governance community has approved a significant change to the OP token economic model, aiming to enhance its value and utility. This decision contrasts with the ongoing concerns of eHailing drivers in Benin City regarding their income, as detailed in the new proposal.
