Activision has announced changes to the interface and access to the Call of Duty library. The new features include an improved interface, direct access to games, more control over COD: Warfare content downloads, and streaming technology to reduce file sizes.

Changes in Call of Duty

According to the Call of Duty team, these changes will be rolled out in phases as a series of downloads. Activision confirmed three key updates: August 21, August 30, and mid-October before the COD: Black Ops 6 launch on October 25. A large initial update is scheduled for August 21 alongside the launch of Season 5 Reloaded.

We’ve been working on ways to improve the Call of Duty experience by optimizing menu navigation and offering smaller and more customized downloads, plus other benefits for your Call of Duty library.Call of Duty

Update Plans and Dates

The implementation of the proposed changes will require a series of updates to reorganize game files and deploy a redesigned user interface (UI). The Call of Duty team asserted that they would be 'decoupling' Call of Duty: Warzone from other titles for separate downloads because flexibility and choice matter. The initial large download will not permanently add the full size to the storage space COD occupies on players’ devices. The update reorganizes game files and adds new tech to prepare the way for the full-player interface arriving in October.

Download Optimization

As a thank you to the COD community for completing the initial download, the COD team will offer ten 1-hour weapon 2XP tokens, ten 1-hour player 2XP tokens, and ten BP (battle pass) token tier skips for free to players signing in for the first time after the Season 5 Reloaded update. Players can preload Black Ops 6 Beta content starting August 28. Except for PS5, which requires split downloads, players on other platforms will acquire the entire update through a single download. Updates will include reorganizing game content on August 21, Black Ops open Beta on August 30, the new user interface in mid-October, and the launch of Black Ops on October 25.

We are continuing to work on reducing download sizes for future Call of Duty titles.

Activision plans to smoothly roll out updates, ensuring an improved user experience and optimized Call of Duty downloads. Future updates are prepared for launch from August through October 2024.
