Adelaide Oval and Crypto.com have come together to allow fans at one of Australia's top sporting venues to make payments using cryptocurrency. This collaboration marks the first time that a major stadium in Australia will offer cryptocurrency payment options.

Located in Adelaide, Oval is known for being the home ground of the Australian Rules football club Adelaide Crows.

In the press release, it was mentioned that the partnership also involves DataMesh, a prominent provider of payment terminals.

As per the announcement, customers attending sports events or concerts at Adelaide Oval will now have the option to make payments for food and drinks using cryptocurrency. Transactions will be processed through Crypto.com Pay, the platform's payment solution that accommodates various cryptocurrencies.

The services are expected to go live on April 4 at the AFL’s 'Gather Round' event, with the first 1,000 transactions eligible for an AUD$10 cashback. Further promotions and incentives are scheduled to be introduced throughout the 2024 Toyota AFL Premiership Season, particularly targeting matches held at Adelaide Crows' home ground.

According to Karl Mohan, General Manager for APAC at Crypto.com, the payment technology introduced at Adelaide Oval has been designed with simplicity and scalability in mind. Mohan expressed optimism about future integrations based on this model.

DataMesh CEO Mark Nagy sees the launch of crypto payments at Adelaide Oval as a step towards breaking down barriers and promoting wider adoption of cryptocurrency. He highlighted the significance of bridging the gap between traditional and digital payments, creating more choices for consumers.

This partnership between Adelaide Oval, Crypto.com, and DataMesh follows a prior collaboration between Crypto.com and OTR to introduce the first in-store crypto payments system in Australia. This service is currently accessible at over 440 Peregrine retail outlets across Victoria, South Australia, and Western Australia.
