Analysis of Crypto Market Trends in Q3 and Q4 2024
The cryptocurrency market is poised to maintain its uncertain trajectory through the later part of Q3, 2024, based on insights from analysts at Coinbase, a prominent crypto exchange.
David Duong, Coinbase's head of institutional research, and David Han, an analyst at the exchange, recently outlined their market expectations in the weekly report. They predict heightened volatility in the cryptocurrency sphere in the upcoming weeks, followed by a probable market upswing in the final quarter.
Echoing a positive sentiment, analysts at JPMorgan have also indicated an optimistic outlook, suggesting a potential market recovery in August.
Initial Challenges in Q3
The crypto market witnessed a bullish phase earlier in the year, primarily driven by the narrative around the spot Bitcoin ETF, leading to Bitcoin achieving a new record high above $73,000.
Conversely, the second quarter encountered a series of setbacks, including uncertainties stemming from interest rate decisions, miner activities, and substantial sell-offs by government-controlled entities. These challenges have extended into the third quarter.
Analysts noted a subdued start to Q3 characterized by downward pressure on prices due to an influx of Bitcoin supply from entities unaffected by market dynamics. Notably, the German government's Bundeskriminalamt initiated the sale of seized Bitcoin on June 19, amplifying the supply saturation.
The unresolved issues surrounding Mt. Gox have further clouded the market outlook, with analysts emphasizing that the perceived uncertainty could be more significant than the actual selling activities.
Continued Volatility Foreseen
Anticipating a turbulent market environment in Q3 2024, the analysts attribute the expected fluctuations to the absence of compelling market narratives.
Positive Projections for Q4
Despite the ongoing challenges, recent endorsements of spot ETH ETFs by the SEC and the submission of SOL ETF applications mark significant milestones. While the impact of ETH ETF flows remains ambiguous, Duong and Han remain confident about the market positioning.
They opine that the next couple of months may witness increased market turbulence before a more substantial positive transition by the end of September. Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, prospective interest rate modifications and the impending US election in November hold the potential to sway market dynamics significantly.
The analysts suggest that Bitcoin could emerge as an attractive investment avenue amidst expanding fiscal policies, presenting itself as a viable alternative to traditional financial instruments.
