Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) has joined Singapore's Project Guardian to explore the potential benefits of real-world asset (RWA) tokenization in financial markets.

About Project Guardian

Project Guardian was launched in 2022 by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. It aims to enhance liquidity and efficiency in financial markets through RWA tokenization.

ANZ and Chainlink Collaboration

ANZ will partner with Chainlink Labs and Singapore investment firm ADDX to test how commercial papers can interoperate between blockchains. ANZ plans to use Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) for this purpose.

Importance of RWA Tokenization

ANZ’s banking services lead Nigel Dobson highlighted that tokenized asset markets are currently 'highly fragmented.' He emphasized that most RWAs can't freely move between blockchains without an interoperability protocol, which slows adoption and complicates integration processes for financial institutions.

ANZ will receive on-the-ground support from Project Guardian in Singapore, enabling the bank to more effectively implement its tokenization initiatives.
