The price of Astar Network (ASTR) experienced a significant increase of almost 5% after a proposal was revealed by the Astar Foundation to burn 350 million ASTR tokens. This spike in ASTR's price pushed it to highs of $0.09.

The surge in Astar Network's price was a direct result of the proposal introduced by the Astar Foundation. This positive momentum comes amidst the ongoing bearish pressure that has persisted since ASTR hit highs of around $0.17 in March. Despite this, the recent surge has lifted its price above $0.09, potentially paving the way for a bullish trend towards $0.1.

Astar Foundation's Token Burn Proposal

The sudden price increase in ASTR was triggered by an announcement from the Astar Foundation regarding a proposal to burn 350 million ASTR tokens. Market reactions to this proposal were favorable, leading to an upward movement in prices. If the proposal is approved in the following weeks, Astar Network will remove tokens worth $31 million from circulation.

As per the foundation's proposal, this burn would involve 5% of the genesis allocation. Notably, the tokens set for burning originate from the project's parachain auction reserve, which was reserved during Astar Network's initial deployment.

The proposed token burn is strategically timed before Polkadot's 'Agile Coretime' upgrade, which is slated to phase out DOT's crowdloan mechanism.
