Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear criticized the tariffs imposed by President Trump, highlighting their negative impact on local families.
Criticism of Trump's Tariff Policy
Beshear noted that working families in Kentucky, who supported Trump in the elections, are now facing rising costs due to his shifting tariff policy. "People in Kentucky voted for Donald Trump because they thought he would make life easier, and he is only making it harder."
Increase in Tariff Threats
Last week, the Trump administration issued a multitude of tariff threats. By Wednesday, the number had escalated to 21 countries, including the Philippines and Moldova. Special attention was directed at Brazil with a threat of 50% tariffs due to the ongoing legal case against the former president, leading to chaos in Trump's tariff strategy, according to Beshear.
Uncertainty Among Trump Voters
A poll showed that 25% of Trump's voters believe tariffs are hindering trade negotiations. Less than half support tariffs on Chinese goods if it leads to higher prices. Beshear also criticized changes in healthcare that could cut millions from medical assistance.
Beshear emphasizes that Trump's economic policies do not align with the expectations of his voters and fears the negative impacts of current changes on working families.
