Binance Manager Tigran Gambaryan Initiates Legal Action Against Nigerian Government Post-Detention

Mar 29, 2024

It has been reported that Gambaryan has taken legal steps against the Nigerian government, claiming his detention upon arrival in Nigeria and the subsequent seizure of his passport violated his personal freedom rights as outlined in the country's constitution.

News from Punch in Nigeria states that Gambaryan's lawsuit demands the immediate return of his passport and an official apology from Nigerian authorities for the actions taken against him.

Gambaryan's position as Binance's head of financial crimes compliance sheds light on the severity of the situation and the need to address the allegations of rights violation promptly. A similar complaint has reportedly been filed by Nadeem Anjarwalla, Binance's Africa regional manager, who was also detained alongside Gambaryan upon their arrival in Abuja on February 25.

These legal disputes come amidst the Nigerian government's increased scrutiny of Binance, with four tax evasion charges filed against the cryptocurrency exchange. The Federal Supreme Court has summoned Binance and its executives to appear in court on April 4, with Nigerian authorities expressing their intent to seek Interpol's assistance in capturing Anjarwalla for trial.
