Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan finds himself at the center of a legal battle in Nigeria. A video from September 2 shows him in court pleading for help due to health issues and alleged mistreatment.
Gambaryan's Arrest and Health Condition
Tigran Gambaryan has been in the custody of Nigerian authorities since February. He suffers from a herniated disk, pneumonia, tonsillitis, and malaria. The video shows him struggling to move on one leg with the help of a crutch, repeatedly seeking assistance from a guard who denies him help.
Denied Access to Lawyers
Gambaryan's lawyers claim they have been unable to meet with him to prepare for the trial. They filed a new bail application on medical grounds and due to alleged lack of access. Prosecutors from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission rejected the application, claiming that Gambaryan was not unwell and had refused previous treatment.
Court's Decision
In court, Gambaryan pleaded with the judge about the lack of proper medical care and the issue of access to his lawyers. The judge ordered that he be allowed to use a wheelchair and said he would continue to consider the bail application in the next session.
The legal proceedings for Gambaryan will continue, with his health and detention conditions remaining critical issues in the case.
