Bitcoin Cash (BCH) Block Reward Halving Event

Apr 4, 2024

The recent block reward halving in Bitcoin Cash (BCH) resulted in miners receiving 50 percent less reward, dropping from 6.25 coins per block to 3,125 coins.

The halving occurred amidst an increasing network hashrate, showcasing the evolving dynamics within the BCH ecosystem. Prior to the halving, BCH's total hashrate surged to over 8 Exahash per second (EH/s) on April 1st, stabilizing around 3.78 EH/s by April 3rd.

This rise in hashrate, observed since late February, indicates heightened miner engagement and curiosity in the BCH network. Following the halving, BCH is preparing for a mid-May upgrade to introduce an adaptive block size limit.

The upcoming upgrade intends to incorporate an algorithm that dynamically adjusts BCH's block size based on recent block sizes, enhancing the network's resistance to spam attacks and lowering transaction costs.

Automating block size adjustments in real-time aims to boost the network's responsiveness while upholding strategic incentives and gaming dynamics.

Despite the halving event, the BCH price surged by 11 percent during that particular day. Please note that this information is not investment advice.
