A large Bitcoin whale, known as "37X," transferred over $6 billion worth of Bitcoin to three different addresses, marking the first substantial transaction of this kind since 2019. This move involved relocating almost all of the whale's 94,500 Bitcoin, leaving behind only a small amount in the original wallet.

Details of the transfer were disclosed on March 25 by Arkham Intelligence, revealing that $5.03 billion in Bitcoin was sent to one address, while two other addresses received $561.46 million and $488.40 million respectively. Notably, one of these addresses forwarded the received funds elsewhere.

This transaction aligns with a surge in institutional interest in Bitcoin, particularly in anticipation of the forthcoming halving event in late April. This event will cut the mining block reward in half and is expected to impact Bitcoin's price significantly.

Experts suggest that despite Bitcoin reaching record price levels just before the halving, the market has not fully factored in the upcoming supply reduction. Notably, the recent whale transaction occurred as Bitcoin surpassed $70,000 on March 25, following a period of absence from this price point.

The rally in Bitcoin's price also reflects a broader trend of accumulation by investors off exchanges, with Coinbase experiencing a notable drop in its Bitcoin supply. With Bitcoin's price increasing by 6.4% on March 25 to reach $71,222, the heightened interest can be attributed to halving expectations and growing institutional investments in the cryptocurrency space.

Institutional involvement from companies like BlackRock and Fidelity launching Bitcoin-related products is seen as legitimizing cryptocurrency as an alternative asset class. The rise in Bitcoin ETFs, totaling $58.3 billion in on-chain holdings, further signifies the growing acceptance of Bitcoin among investors as a legitimate investment option.
