Blockchain Games and Crypto Adoption on Telegram

May 21, 2024

Notcoin's expansion on Telegram showcases the platform's relevance for cryptocurrency integration. With a rapid user surge, Notcoin garnered a massive user base of over 30 million in just two months, enabling the establishment of TON-based digital wallets. The game's premise is simple; users earn NOT tokens by tapping their screens, introducing 1% of Telegram users to Web3. NOT tokens' listing on prominent exchanges opened up significant financial opportunities for regular players. Blockchain games, such as those on the TON Foundation, are instrumental in drawing new participants into the crypto sphere.

TON Foundation's game leader, Inal Kardan, highlighted the unique attraction of blockchain games in bringing fresh users into the crypto environment. During the Next Block Expo in Warsaw, Kardan emphasized the effectiveness of games like Notcoin in operating on Telegram and engaging users seamlessly. Utilizing Telegram as a platform integrated with Web2 technologies and blockchain features is pivotal for swift user and revenue accrual, utilizing marketing tools like sharing and mining.

Moreover, Yat Siu, co-founder of Animoca Brands, recognized the viral growth potential of Web3 games in boosting success on Telegram and TON. Siu pointed out that platforms like Apple and Google are more stringent towards Web3 games, giving TON and Telegram a competitive edge. Games such as Notcoin stand out with their unique user engagement tactics, aligning closely with conventional Web2 advertising models.

Supporting this perspective is data revealing the success of Web3 game companies like Gamee, enhancing engagement through staking and game mechanisms, resulting in a substantial increase in daily active users. Siu highlighted the existing familiarity of most Telegram users with cryptocurrencies, forming a harmonious ecosystem where Web2 and Web3 players merge. TON and Telegram's alignment with crypto principles of freedom, digital ownership, and decentralization further solidifies their role in this shared domain.

Michał Dąbrowski, the CEO of Elympics, a blockchain game infrastructure provider, sees immense potential in Web3 games for luring new crypto enthusiasts. Dąbrowski noted the historical struggle of game developers in monetization processes, which blockchain infrastructure remedies. Elympics envisions vast opportunities in the TON ecosystem, aiding studios and developers in distributing Web3 games on Telegram.
