Bolt has announced the high earnings of its drivers in Nigeria, emphasizing its leadership in the ride-hailing market.
High Earnings of Bolt Drivers
Bolt reports that its top drivers earn an average of ₦1,610,351 per month, significantly higher than the competitor inDrive, which reports ₦1,200,000. This indicates a growing demand for ride-hailing services in Nigeria.
Driver Support and Company Initiatives
The company also disclosed that its top 50 drivers earned over ₦9.6 million in six months. Bolt emphasizes its commitment to driver support, including enhancing working conditions, implementing bonus programs, and prioritizing safety. Osi Oguah, General Manager of Bolt Nigeria, stated that the company is seriously focused on creating economic opportunities for its drivers.
Criticism from Labor Unions
Shortly after the Bolt report, labor unions such as the Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) expressed discontent with the working conditions of drivers. NLC Chairperson Comrade Agnes Sessi stated that the commissions charged to drivers are excessively high, placing them in difficult financial positions. She urged the company to justify its actions concerning the commissions it receives.
Despite high earnings, concerns regarding driver welfare remain pertinent, and companies need to address these issues to improve working conditions.
