Bolt has launched a new rider verification feature in Nigeria as part of its efforts to build driver-passenger trust and ensure safer rides.

Bolt's New Safety Features

Leading ride-hailing company Bolt has announced the launch of a new rider verification feature in Nigeria. This feature will allow passengers to verify their identity, enhancing trust between drivers and passengers and ensuring safer rides.

Driver Reactions and Safety Concerns

The rider verification feature has been launched 10 months after its initial announcement amid driver demands for stricter safety standards. Drivers are concerned about the lack of mandatory passenger verification, which they believe exposes them to dangers. Bolt explained that the current phase of verification acts as a test, and based on user feedback, it will decide if the verification will become mandatory.

"Being able to verify that riders are who they say they are is the number one feature requested by driver-partners in Nigeria. The launch of rider verification is an acknowledgement of the importance of mutual trust between driver partners and riders."Lola Masha, Bolt's Regional Manager of North and West Africa

Verification Details and Future Development

Riders opting for verification will need to take a selfie and upload an identification document. The verification process takes a few seconds or minutes and is only available in the latest version of the Bolt app. The company plans to monitor user feedback and decide on the future development of this feature.

"As with every feature, we’ll be keeping a close eye on how our customers respond to the option to verify themselves on the platform and make decisions on how we evolve the feature in the future, including whether this becomes a requirement for placing a ride-hailing order."Company representative

Bolt's new rider verification feature in Nigeria marks an important step towards ensuring safety and trust between drivers and passengers. The company will continue to monitor and improve this feature based on user feedback.
