Lake Superior Academy in Canada has initiated legal action against a cryptocurrency mining center due to persistent noise disrupting the educational process.
Noise from Crypto Mining
The noise from the mining facility located on Mackinac Trail has been described as a high-pitched metallic sound resembling a chorus of mechanical insects. According to the school's Superintendent Susie Schlehuber, the noise level reached 75 decibels at the border of the school property, and approximately 65 decibels at the school’s front door.
School's Legal Actions
The school has filed a lawsuit against the company operating the mining operation, claiming that the measures taken to mitigate the noise have been ineffective. The lawsuit states that the noise has disrupted outdoor lessons and halted construction plans for the school.
Odessa Partners LLC Response
Odessa Partners LLC, the company managing the mining setup, filed a claim regarding estimated losses of about $15,000 a day due to halted operations. Representatives have yet to respond to the lawsuit.
The situation between the school and the crypto mining operation raises important questions about the effects of noise pollution and its impact on the educational environment.
