Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has unveiled a plan to significantly enhance the blockchain’s scalability. In a recent statement by developer Input Output Global (IOG), it was noted that the new approach includes the implementation of Leios, Rollups, and Hydra.

Cardano Founder’s Speech

Developers Input Output Global (IOG) shared an important statement made by Charles Hoskinson at a recent event. He said: "Leios is going to provide a dramatic increase in layer 1 performance. Complemented by rollups – coming to PlutusV3 – and Hydra, these things together will make for best in class for scalability."

Ouroboros Leios Technology

According to Charles Hoskinson, Ouroboros Leios, together with rollups that are coming to Plutus V3 and the scaling solution Hydra, will deliver best-in-class scalability performance. Ouroboros Leios, a new variant of the Ouroboros family, is designed to significantly boost throughput while maintaining the same security level as previous Ouroboros variants. Existing variants of the Ouroboros blockchain algorithm have limited throughput capabilities, both in terms of data throughput and CPU processing. These limitations are due to the distributed algorithm’s data and communication needs, not the resources available to each node (network capacity or CPU performance). Improving this requires a new algorithm design, which Ouroboros Leios aims to provide.

Recent Cardano Milestones

On September 1, 2024, Cardano took a significant, irrevocable step from being one of the most decentralized blockchains to becoming an ecosystem governed solely by its community of ADA holders with the launch of the Chang 1 upgrade. Last week, Cardano node version 9.1.1 was released to address an issue where 9.1.0 nodes would replay from the genesis block upon restart during the Conway era. The Lace team has expanded governance to Conway-era hardware wallet users, enhancing access and functionality in Lace version 1.15. Looking ahead, the team is preparing for the release of Lace version 1.16.

The latest accomplishments and innovations in Cardano's technology aim to make the blockchain more productive and scalable, ensuring a high degree of decentralization and security.
