Crypto exchange CEX.IO has resumed its operations in the UK after a 10-month voluntary suspension to comply with new regulatory guidelines.
Resumption of Operations
CEX.IO has returned to the UK market 10 months after voluntarily halting operations due to the implementation of the Financial Promotions Regime by UK regulators in October 2023. As of August, both existing and new clients can now access the platform, which has been updated to comply with FCA regulations.
Importance of the UK Market
The UK remains a primary market for CEX.IO, with local users representing over 69% of the total customer base across the European Economic Area as of October 2023.
Regulatory Compliance
CEX.IO’s return to the UK market is facilitated by approval from FCA-designated firm Gateway 21. However, the exchange is still in the process of obtaining anti-money laundering registration from the FCA. All services will be managed from Lithuania, requiring ongoing collaboration with Gateway 21.
The resumption of CEX.IO’s operations in the UK represents a significant step for the company as it aims to fortify its positions in this market, adhering to stringent regulatory and security standards.
