Former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao expresses confidence that Bitcoin will become the global reserve currency. His view is supported by the increasing number of companies and nations adopting BTC.
Bitcoin as a Global Reserve Currency
On August 29, Changpeng Zhao stated that Bitcoin is on its way to becoming the global reserve currency, noting that more entities, especially from the traditional finance sector, are adding Bitcoin to their balance sheets.
Increasing Number of Companies Holding BTC
According to BTC Treasuries data, there has been a significant increase in the number of companies adding Bitcoin to their assets. Currently, 309 entities worldwide hold BTC on their balance sheets, with more than a third being public companies.
Current Trends in Bitcoin Accumulation
In the first half of 2025 alone, 51 new companies have started stockpiling Bitcoin, a sharp increase compared to 37 new companies in 2024. Among these is Michael Saylor’s Strategy, the largest holder of BTC with 632,457 BTC on its balance sheet.
The growing interest in Bitcoin from companies and governments is evident, and with Changpeng Zhao's assertion of BTC as a potential global reserve currency, this could change the financial landscape significantly.
