According to OpenAI, ChatGPT's user base has grown from 500 million at the end of March and has quadrupled over the last year. Every day, people and teams use it for learning, creativity, and solving complex problems.
Impact of Image Generation Feature
Nick Turley, OpenAI's vice president, noted that significant growth was driven by the introduction of the image generation function based on GPT-4, launched in March 2025. OpenAI COO Brad Lightcap stated that users created over 700 million images in the first week alone.
Increase in Paid Subscribers
The company also highlighted a rapid increase in paid business subscribers, which grew from 3 million in June to 5 million just last week. Analytics firm Sensor Tower noted that users visit the ChatGPT app an average of 12 times per month, placing it second only to Google Search.
