CodeRabbit has raised $16M to develop an AI tool that helps programmers review code in real-time.
How CodeRabbit Tool Works
CodeRabbit’s generative AI-based tool reviews code as developers write it. It works similarly to having a human co-developer for review. The tool provides feedback within minutes, can be integrated with GitLab and GitHub, understands the intent of the code through context, identifies current or potential shortcomings, and analyzes each part of the code using machine learning algorithms to suggest improvements according to coding standards.
Advantages Over Other Tools
The startup claims that its tool is better than static systems at reviewing codes, as these tools are less reliable and flexible due to being rules-based. The false positive rate of static tools is quite high. Additionally, human reviews are subjective, time-consuming, and not always reliable. CodeRabbit claims that its tool helps improve code quality while saving resources.
Future Plans
CodeRabbit's co-founder and CEO Harjot Gill previously led startups like Netsil and FluxNinja. Another co-founder, Gur Singh, also led product and engineering teams at Alegeus Technologies. Gill remarked that the investment would accelerate product development and market expansion. Initially, the company’s solutions were adopted by small and medium-sized businesses, acquiring 600 paying customers in the first year of operations. Now, CodeRabbit plans to enter the large enterprise segment and is conducting proof-of-concept trials with some Fortune 500 companies.
The startup CodeRabbit believes that raising $16M will help the company accelerate its development and strengthen its market position by attracting new clients among large enterprises.
