Users were advised against engaging with the compromised Starknet Discord server, refraining from clicking on links or responding to messages until the issue is resolved.
A breach of the Starknet Discord server presents risks such as phishing, malware exposure, and personal data compromise. The Starknet team has emphasized the need for users to exercise caution while addressing the situation.
Crypto Industry Reports Major Losses in July
This incident reflects a troubling trend within the cryptocurrency and blockchain domains, which have become prime targets for cyber attacks in recent times. In 2024 alone, the industry suffered losses exceeding $1.19 billion through 149 hacks and scams, marking a 16.3% year-over-year increase, as highlighted in a recent Immunefi report.
While July saw a decrease in losses compared to the previous year, with 14 reported incidents, losses surged by 90% on a month-over-month basis.
The most significant loss in July was a $235 million hack on the WazirX exchange, allegedly perpetrated by North Korean hackers. This breach sparked controversy regarding the exchange's response to the incident. Additionally, the decentralized exchange aggregator LI.FI reported a substantial loss of $10 million during the same period.
