Crypto Industry Reports Major Losses in July

This incident reflects a troubling trend within the cryptocurrency and blockchain domains, which have become prime targets for cyber attacks in recent times. In 2024 alone, the industry suffered losses exceeding $1.19 billion through 149 hacks and scams, marking a 16.3% year-over-year increase, as highlighted in a recent Immunefi report.

While July saw a decrease in losses compared to the previous year, with 14 reported incidents, losses surged by 90% on a month-over-month basis.

The most significant loss in July was a $235 million hack on the WazirX exchange, allegedly perpetrated by North Korean hackers. This breach sparked controversy regarding the exchange's response to the incident. Additionally, the decentralized exchange aggregator LI.FI reported a substantial loss of $10 million during the same period.
