Introduction

The Core Foundation has introduced a revolutionary Dual Staking model aimed at increasing Bitcoin yields and establishing a new market standard. This innovative approach builds upon Core's pioneering Non-Custodial Bitcoin Staking initiative and incorporates a $BTC bond layer to define the 'Bitcoin Risk-Free Rate.' This transformation is set to strengthen Bitcoin's position from a mere store of value to a secure, yield-generating asset.

Mechanism of Dual Staking

The Dual Staking model offers Bitcoin (BTC) stakers the opportunity to stake both BTC and Core rewards simultaneously to achieve higher returns. Users who stake $CORE tokens in addition to $BTC can earn what is known as 'Dual-Staker Rates.' On the other hand, $BTC holders can continue staking their Bitcoins to receive the base Risk-Free Rate, denoting the yield generated within the protocol without any counterparty risk.

Long-term Bitcoin stakers are set to earn greater rewards compared to those staking for shorter durations, with the exact timeframe to be determined in the future. The overarching goal of this development is to bridge the economic gap between Bitcoin and the Core network, thereby providing a clear value proposition for Bitcoin staking rewards and aligning the incentives between the two blockchains.

Significance of Dual Staking

Industry experts consider Dual Staking a pivotal advancement for Core's value proposition, positioning the native CORE asset as a fundamental element in Bitcoin finance. The integration of Bitcoin and Core blockchains is particularly noteworthy as 55% of BTC mining hash power is currently allocated to Core, reflecting a growing synergy between the two ecosystems.

Decoding Non-Custodial Bitcoin Staking

In April 2024, Core introduced its Non-Custodial Bitcoin Staking program, enabling Bitcoin holders to earn yields without compromising custody of their assets. In the initial stages, approximately 5,000 BTC, equivalent to $309 million, were staked with Core, with participants receiving the Risk-Free Rate distributed in CORE tokens.

Rich Rines, a prominent figure within the Core DAO, emphasizes that the new model not only provides an additional earning avenue but also bolsters blockchain security. According to Rines, Core serves as a secondary block reward provider for Bitcoin, offering CORE tokens to Bitcoin participants in return for security services, a concept that gains further traction with the implementation of Dual Staking.

By engaging in staking activities, participants play a vital role in enhancing network security, thereby promoting a safer environment for transactions. Consequently, the significance of CORE tokens in participants' investment portfolios has increased significantly due to the introduction of the dual staking system, offering additional earning potential and reinforcing blockchain security.
