The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has begun to actively implement cryptocurrency regulation to stimulate digital finance. One of the steps was signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Crypto.com.
Emirates and Crypto.com's Agreement
In July, the UAE signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Crypto.com. With this agreement, passengers will be able to pay for flights, upgrades, and duty-free purchases using cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH). Full integration is expected by 2026.
Airlines Supporting Cryptocurrency
Some UAE airlines have also started to accept cryptocurrencies for payments:
- **Air Arabia:** accepts AE Coin stablecoin for bookings. - **Travala:** offers booking flights and hotels with crypto payments. - **Destinia:** supports cryptocurrencies for service payments. - **Alternative Airlines:** allows booking tickets using various cryptocurrencies.
UAE's Positioning as a Global Crypto Leader
The UAE is creating a robust regulatory framework in the crypto sector, focusing on adherence to international standards. This strategy aims to attract investments and enhance stability in the crypto sector.
The introduction of crypto payments in the aviation sector highlights the growing importance of digital finance in the UAE and a focus on consumer preferences.
