A new report from Google's Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG) states that North Korean-linked fraudsters are expanding their influence in blockchain companies in the UK and Europe.
Expanding Operations Beyond the USA
According to the report, while the primary focus of these fraudsters remains on the USA, heightened scrutiny and stricter verification processes are forcing them to shift their focus to non-USA companies.
New Tactics and Targets of Fraudsters
The report highlights the discovery of fake workers infiltrating projects from web development to blockchain. They pose as legitimate remote workers to generate revenue for the regime and potentially compromise company data and systems.
Global Threat and Countermeasures
Beyond the UK, fraudsters operate across European countries using fake resumes and passports. The USA, Japan, and South Korea have already warned about the increasing cyber threat from North Korea in the blockchain sector.
The surge in extortion attempts and infiltration by North Korean fraudsters pose a significant threat to the global blockchain industry, necessitating active countermeasures and caution.
