Air travel in the United Arab Emirates is becoming more aligned with digital innovations as major airlines adopt cryptocurrency payments.
Implementation of Crypto Payments by Airlines
Emirates has become the first airline to partner with Crypto.com to enable cryptocurrency payments for its services and bookings. The launch is planned for 2026 and will support cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Cronos (CRO), and stablecoins such as USDT and USDC. Passengers will be able to use their crypto wallets to purchase tickets, upgrade their services, and shop duty-free.
Expansion of Booking Platforms
Booking services are also starting to offer crypto payment options. The platform Travala supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT, USDC, and BNB for flights, hotels, and experiences. Alternative Airlines works with over 650 carriers and accepts cryptocurrencies such as XRP, Litecoin, and Dogecoin, while Destinia allows payments for flights and hotels using Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Ease of Crypto Flight Payments
The payment process for cryptocurrency is handled by third-party providers to ensure convenience in transactions. Passengers can select cryptocurrency at checkout, link their digital wallet, confirm the transfer, and receive an electronic ticket instantly. Platforms like Travala also integrate with services like Crypto.com Pay and Binance Pay.
By enabling crypto payments, the UAE is reinforcing its position as a leader in digital technology. The adoption of cryptocurrencies by Emirates and Air Arabia marks a significant advancement in integrating digital assets into aviation.
